Individuals

Bates Kos Simek & Skrivanek LLP continues to enjoy servicing a broad tax compliance client base. We have developed very trusted relationships with tax clients ranging from families to small business owners to executives of major companies.

We have developed a worldwide client base over the years. By virtue of this fact, we are knowledgeable in various state taxation issues. Some of our local clients have business ventures of various degrees in other states, while still other clients reside full-time in states other than Texas. While convenience certainly matters to our clients, most of our clients that move from Texas to another state choose to continue our professional relationship. With e-mail, fax lines, and our new Online Tax Organizer, the distance in miles is mitigated by the distance we go to satisfy our clients.

We have also developed significant experience in the area of expatriate taxation (for US citizens living and working abroad). Our overseas clients have been located in various regions such as South America, the United Kingdom, the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia. We pride ourselves in providing our clients more than just tax return preparation-we provide solutions. We point out opportunities for meaningful tax planning. See our Tax Tips for starters.

Nonprofit Organizations

Many nonprofit organizations are required to file a tax return (technically termed an information return) depending on the volume or type of revenue they generate. Typically, the required form is some version of a Form 990. Stemming from our continuous work with nonprofit organizations, we have amassed significant experience preparing Form 990. Directors of nonprofit organizations should consult with a tax advisor to determine the organization's compliance requirements.

Expatriates

If you are a US citizen living and working abroad, you are still required to file a US income tax return reporting your worldwide income-regardless of the source. However, under certain conditions, you may be able to exclude up to $80,000 from your annual income. Alternatively, you may be able to take a credit of any income tax paid to a foreign country against your US income tax, thus avoiding any double-taxation.

The rules surrounding expatriate taxation are complex; therefore, you should engage the services of a CPA that is knowledgeable in this area of taxation. With over twenty years experience working with expatriates, we are the solution to your special tax needs.

We also welcome discussions with employers of expatriates regarding volume tax return preparation contracts.
